Bitdefender is among the best antivirus scanners for Mac, with consistently excellent rates of malware detection and a variety of other useful security features. It’s not without faults.
The default interface of the suite is easy to navigate and groups feature in 3 categories: Protection click here for info Utilities, Privacy, and Protection. The Protection tab focuses on the features you’d expect from an antivirus suite, including real-time scanning, firewall monitoring, and ransomware countermeasures. The Privacy tab outlines ways to stay safe on internet, such as a secure browser which runs websites in the sandbox to prevent malware from infecting your normal browser. The Utilities tab contains optimization tools and the file shredder, which erases files with specialized algorithms to render them unrecoverable even if they have been deleted.
Premium plans also come with password management and an option called “Anti-Tracker” which can block web services from tracking you inordinately. The program includes a vulnerability scanner that can detect outdated software, weak passwords, or Windows updates that haven’t been applied. It also has a speedy custom scan which only takes five minutes, much faster than other competitors such as Norton and TotalAV.
The only drawback to the application is its slow install process which can be very frustrating for those who want to get started immediately. Additionally the application’s “Reveal in the Finder” option doesn’t work and is a bizarre omission for an antivirus app that competes with other solutions that do similar things in just a few clicks.
